Wallpaper Stedelijk

From August 2016 until January 2017, my wallpaper, which I designed for Natura Artis Magistra, was on display at the exhibition ‘Dream Out Loud’ of the Stedelijk Museum.

It is tradition for the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam to organise a biennial exhibition that shows the latest art within a certain discipline. In 2016, the exhibition’s central focus was contemporary design. For these ‘municipal acquisitions’, the Stedelijk always has an ‘open call’, to which artists and designers living and working in The Netherlands can send suggestions.

About 400 designers responded, together suggesting about 750 projects. A jury selected 26 participants. Their works were shown from the 26th of August onwards at the group exhibition ‘Dream Out Loud’.

The Stedelijk Museum wrote the following about the exhibition: “The participants do dream out loud about a better world, as a way in which they can defend themselves against cynicism or apathy. With playful ease they all approach contemporary problems. This way a new language of forms develops almost naturally. It is possible, it happens and it brings forth a new generation of designers for whom not extreme luxury, but improvement of what already exists is the driving force. This ‘social design’ doesn’t always immediately generate useable applications, but it does make way for a new mindset or to show that fantasy can help getting us closer to the feasible and achievable. These designers prove it; it can be done differently!”
